Module to module communication

posted Jan 18, 2016 01:02:10 by Nick Nyden
Hey Paul and everyone else, I have the premium channel and love the material. Was wondering if there's a video on how module to module communication works? I have researched a lot and think I have a good idea but would love to hear Paul's explanation of how 2 twisted wires communicate over networks and how the terminating resistors work. Also what types of problems are common. Are there any videos already posted that explain some of this in detail? Thanks a bunch and keep it up Paul!

I'd be interested in this as well, mostly because I just don't get to diagnose that many network issues.

I believe ScannerDanner uses a separate text book in his class for network/communication stuff, which I think he mentioned in the Volvo CEM/PDM series. I'd consider buying it if I had the title...

To explain this in detail it would take many videos I'm afraid. Not to mention the different multiplex protocols. I mean there's more than CAN. Thinking of MOST, LIN,.. and then manufacturer original ones. But I think it'd be a great idea at least to start with basics and then go further into this matter. This crap CAN give you a real headache.

Also realize that some of these aren't engine related of course.

Did anything come of that book Tyler or have you found any good info out there? I get cold sweats if I see a U code. Haha

Check out the website of James Halderman. Has many books on different subjects. Think they use it where Paul teaches.
